BEEF: MADONNA X GAGA

From the music industry to Broadway to Northwestern theater, it has become increasingly difficult to continue making art and remain authentic amongst pressures to change oneself. By portraying and taking inspiration from two of the world’s most respected artists, we aim to celebrate the intricate tapestry that makes up the world of music and theater. Through the show, we want to reframe narratives within making art from those of comparison and critique to finding the value and heart of each individual creator from pop culture to Northwestern.

However, we are just as, if not more, excited about the medium of this story. It is rare on this campus to do an original concert musical, and we want to celebrate all of the unique, exciting modes of storytelling that this type of theatre affords. We are interested in exploring how more contemporary forms of dance and popular music styles can contribute to the stories we tell on stage. Moreso, we want to look at how concerts utilize different forms of design, from music to lighting to costuming. Concerts operate under different bounds than musical theater, and we are interested in how these bounds can function on this campus.

Ultimately, we see this show as an opportunity to celebrate and uplift new forms of art. We want this to be a unique opportunity at Northwestern to explore and attempt to learn from and emulate the concerts that made others want to perform. We are not only trying to create a concert musical here on campus, we want every audience member to feel the excitement they feel when walking into their favorite pop singer's show, and walk out wanting to see it all over again.
