About

The Purple Crayon Players are thrilled to present Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse this winter and spring. Based on the books by Kevin Henkes, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse helps show children the importance of empathy, forgiveness, and patience through the eyes of a young mouse navigating the ups and downs of her colorful world.

For over 20 years, the Purple Crayon Players have been committed to creating high quality productions, events, and educational materials regarding all aspects of theater for young audiences. Each production echoes the belief that audiences of all ages can appreciate, be inspired by, and grow through exposure to this unique art form. Each year, the group produces two mainstage shows in the fall and winter. The winter mainstage show also has the opportunity to go on tour to local elementary schools in the Evanston and Chicagoland area in the spring. This tour is an essential part of the Purple Crayon Players’ goal to make theater for young audiences more accessible to diverse audiences, by bringing the theater to students that otherwise may not have the same opportunities.

This year, the winter mainstage and spring tour show is Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. This playful and heartwarming show follows Lilly, an imaginative mouse full of flair, as she learns big lessons about friendship, family, and forgiveness. Alongside her friends, Chester and Wilson, her teacher, Mr. Slinger, and her new baby brother Julius, Lilly explores her world of music, color, and make-believe. From showing off her beloved purple plastic purse to learning when it’s best to listen and share, Lilly’s adventures remind us that growing up is messy, magical, and always full of surprises. Full of humor and heart, Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse celebrates the joy of learning, loving, and being unapologetically yourself.

However, this production would not be possible with contributions from the local community, which is where you come in! Please consider donating to this Catalyzer page to help support our production costs. The Purple Crayon Players’ season is completely student run and produced, meaning your donations will go directly to supporting the show. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this page with friends and family.

Feel free to visit our instagram page @lillyspurpleplasticpurse.nu for more information!

Halfway there!

Our Catalyzer is now 50% funded, thanks to all of you! We are halfway there, but there is still a lot to do! If you have not donated, please consider making a contribution to our cause. Theater for young audiences exposes children to worlds and ideas they would never encounter elsewhere, generating empathy and curiosity for the world around them. Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse emphasizes both of these themes and will be transformational to our young audiences. We can’t do it without your support!

We have reached 25% of our Catalyzer funding goal!

We would like to take a moment to thank all of our donors thus far. It takes a village to put on a production like this one, and our entire team is so grateful for your contributions to ours. Your donations make it possible for us to properly support our production team and designers with their visions for the show! If you know anyone who would resonate with our cause and wants to help support our team and all their wonderful ideas, please consider sharing the Catalyzer!
